Beginning Quilting

Would you like to learn to quilt? Have you taken other classes but would like to hone your skills? Join us for this comprehensive 10-week class and learn everything from the dos and don'ts of fabric selection, the best ways to use your tools, perfecting your quarter-inch seam, setting your blocks, adding borders, quilting your quilt, and ultimately binding your masterpiece.

We need at least 4 people to start any new class, and so if you have 4 friends that would like to learn to quilt, let us know and we can put together a set of classes especially for your group. You can also put your name on our waiting list, and we will let you know when we have enough sign ups to start a class in a particular time of day and week that you are available.

A new Beginning Quilting class will start on Wednesday, September 17th, 5:30PM - 8:30PM. Make sure to sign up early if you know you want to take this class. Sometimes if people wait until the last minute to sign up for the class, the class gets postponed due to lack of sign-ups.

Project Linus

Temecula Valley Sewing Center is pleased to announce its very own "Winter Blanket Day" for Project Linus. Winter Blanket Day is December 13th, 2008. We would like to encourage your participation and seek your help with this endeavor.

Project Linus is a 100% volunteer, non-profit organization, named after the blanket-toting character from the Peanuts comic strip.

Project Linus has a two-fold mission:

  1. To provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade quilts/blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers."
  2. To provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.

Although Project Linus accepts many types, styles and sizes of quilts/blankets, it is important that blanketeers understand that quilts/blankets must be made from NEW materials, washable, be in child-friendly colors, be a minimum size of 36"x36", and have quality workmanship in order to be donated to a Project Linus recipient facility. If sewn, the blankets must be at least two layers. Single layer fleece blankets with a handmade finished edge, as well as single layer crocheted and knitted afghans are also accepted. Wool, upholstery fabric, corduroy, vynil, and polyester double knit are not accepted. Holiday themed fabric is also not accepted due to the difficulty distributing these blankets in a timely fashion. Very simple or very elaborate projects can be created using very basic guidelines. There are more detailed guidelines for what is accepted or not accepted. Please call or come into the shop for details.

Every quilt/blanket you make and donate will qualify you to enter TVSC's drawing to win a Juki HZL-e70 computerized sewing machine.

TVSC will celebrate Winter Blanket Day on December 13th, 2008. On that date, at 4:00PM, we will hold the drawing for the Juki HZL-e70 computerized sewing machine. The drawing will be drawn by a Project Linus representative, and we hope you will attend the drawing to share in the excitement! We appreciate your participation in helping us make a difference in a child's life, especially at this time of year, and hope you will participate again next year.

Picture Smocking

Have you ever wanted to know how to draw with a needle and floss? Picture Smocking, using a stacked cable stitch, will do just that. Stacking cables is a technique that is similar to cross stitch patterns in that as you place cable stitches on top of each other, you will be forming pictures. The sample picture here shows "Three Blind Mice".

Please Note: Beginning Smocking is a prerequisite to taking this class.

Session 1 - Tuesday, November 11th, 6:00PM to 9:00PM
